Newtown Community Chiropractic

Ever heard of Newtown Community Chiropractic? It's a chiropractic clinic in Newtown, and it's all about the community.

So much so that it occasionally runs anti-vaccination "seminars" at which employee/owner of Newtown Community Chiropractic Nimrod Weiner uses Newtown Community Chiropractic's premises, marketing, budget and 'reputation' to push an untrue anti-vaccination message to impressionable parents from the Newtown Community and the surrounding Inner West.

Oh, that Newtown Community Chiropractic, you say?

Yes, that Newtown Community Chiropractic.

Not very nice.

Anyway, one of Australia's fine national broadsheets ran a story on Nimrod Weiner, and a seminar he held at Newtown Community Chiropractic recently, which has attracted the attention of some actual health professionals, scientists and regulators.

Oops.

Poor Newtown Community Chiropractic. Poor Nimrod Weiner.

I note with interest that while Nimrod Weiner has publically distanced his statements from the Chiropractor's Association Of Australia, he has not distanced his statements from his business in Newtown, Newtown Community Chiropractic, at which the seminars were hosted.

Ooops

Nimrod Weiner isn't very happy about it. In fact, when I posted a congratulatory link to Newtown Community Chiropractic's Facebook page, He deleted it!

is it just me, or is the logo ripped off from the XBox 360 branding scheme, by the way?

Perhaps it was a mistake. After all, Nimrod Weiner is committed to free speech, just like all other anti-vaccination loons, right? Well, we're not sure about that, because the Newtown Community Chiropractic Facebook page just disabled public posts.

Of course my good friend Spartacus was able to find a way back on. Goody.

Lock down public posts, leave comments wide open? WINNING STRATEGY

So we'll soon see if it was a mistake or not, won't we? I do hope Nimrod Weiner sees the error of his ways and opens a constructive dialogue. Well, actually, no I don't. I kind of hope he withdraws completely and stops polluting Newtown and the Inner West with his quackery, but we'll see how that goes.

Oh, and if you'd like to find out more about Newtown Community Chiropractic, follow this link.

Oh, by the way, other science/provax/skeptic bloggers? You know what to do.

I've actually contacted my health fund, giving them the link to the article in The Australian. Response time from them was only 4 hours (email AND phone call) and they have escalated my concerns to their department that reviews the contracts with providers of services for which you can claim. They fully intend scrutinising his contract with them and they also have, in the past, torn up contracts of providers who blatantly do not adhere to public health policy.

Looks like they've already nuked the FB comment.

Carol, which health fund is this? I like the sound of that - although I'd really prefer to be with a health fund that didn't subsidise quackery at all.

They nuked the first FB comment, so Spartacus went in. Now they've banned Spartacus.

DID THEY REALLY THINK THE PUPPETMASTER WOULD ONLY HAVE ONE PUPPET???

BWAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Haven't read much SEO for a while but, as I recall, multiple links on one page to the same address, and from the same link-text, have no multiplying effect.

I think each is effectively just one part of a whole such that the end result is the same as just one link from the page (though linking from different text might be beneficial)

Lots of matching links (including the same link-text) from other pages and sites is definitely worthwhile.

Andy,

Yep, fully aware of that. It's done for comic/rhetorical effect far more than for the effect on google.

As one has been involved in the anti-antivax argument for a couple of years, I feel it is my duty, for the sake of balance, to play devils advocate and offer an argument from their side. Here goes:

FUD! FUD FUD FUD ELEBENTY!!!111!!! GRRRR FUD! TOXINS!!! WON'T SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!111!!! FUD! ALSO, FUD!

Thanks Daniel - now I feel informed, like Meryl always says we should be :)

@Jason... thought that might be the case but I'd hate for others to go nuts doing the same on their own blogs thinking it might be useful.

It was funny.
